Precious coral, or red coral, is the common name given to a genus of marine corals, Corallium. The distinguishing characteristic of precious corals is that they are not mined and are organic gemstones that are durable and intensely colored red or pink-orange skeleton, which is used for making jewelry. Coral chains are most widely used by Mangaloreans and and is a must have in Konkani community. Corals are used in bangles as well as they give a unique aesthetic look.
